I love a day at home alone, although I don’t experience them very often.
My partner, Ben, works from home while I go into the office three times a week, so he is the one in the relationship that frequents home by himself all the time. Hilariously enough, he is also the extrovert of the household.
Today, I am home alone. Ben is off work and on the Russian River fishing for dinner tonight (…I love living in Alaska).
I’m in my dream: home alone. Finishing up working remote for the day, the house is my oyster.
I can look at this in two ways:
All the laundry, bathroom cleaning, mopping, dog-hair-vacuuming, and coffee-grounds-on-the-counter that need to be taken care of…
or:
Spend time with myself. Enjoy the company of me.
Unfortunately, when there is stuff to get done and I am home alone, if I try to relax, I end up stress-laxing.
What is stress-laxing?
Stress-laxing: Unable to relax without stressing about all the things that need to get done. Chores, work, etc…
When I’m home alone, I find myself thinking: okay, just get this done, and that done, then one more thing, then I can sit and do nothing…
And by the time this and that and this are finished, I have to go and do something else.
There is a fine line between procrastination and mastering the art of defeating stress-laxing; I’m not quite sure I’ve found it yet…
