May I please introduce a book to you: Fast Fallen Women, edited by Gina Barreca.
I love this book for so many reasons.
First, it’s a book, but it’s also a collection. Read at your own leisure. Only have five minutes? Well, there are seventy-five enthralling essays that are 2-3 pages each. Every piece is unique. Every piece contains rich emotion. And every piece holds such strong meaning.
Sometimes, when we’re feeling down, we don’t have the capacity to begin an entire novel. Picking up an entire story cover to cover can feel overwhelming, but we still want a distraction – something to stimulate our mind. Every single page in this book will get you to think, relate, sympathize, empathize…
The essays within this book are unique to their writers; in learning their take on a particular “fallen” time in their life, we learn about them as people. And what a feeling it is to know a person on a deeper, more vulnerable level.
This book is about how these women have fallen, but more importantly, it’s about how these women have picked themselves back up again. How they have been there for themselves and endured what they did to grow and become stronger.
It can be difficult to look forward in time when you feel “fallen.” These essays bring the end of the tunnel to light. And in that tunnel, you will get to know so many empowering women.
P.S. … You can find my essay in there, towards the end of the book. 🙂
